Solar Trough Torque Structure

Technical Description

A solar parabolic trough collector using a modified internal torque tube and external rhombus truss torque box to provide high bending and torsional rigidity with reduced material usage. The hollow rhombus/trapezoidal torque tube and symmetric rhombus truss allow longer modules, fewer supports and lighter structures while accurately maintaining the receiver at the focal line.

Problems Addressed

  • Poor Torsional Rigidity
  • Insufficient Bending Strength
  • Heavy Torque Box Designs
  • Too Many Joints
  • High Structural Cost
  • Excess Module Supports

Tech Features

  • Hollow Rhombus Tube
  • Trapezoidal Torque Tube
