Tech Talk From Borders to Bandwidth Proceeding Report
The data centre ecosystem has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s digital sovereignty and economic resilience, powering critical sectors ranging from governance and finance to healthcare, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing amid an era of rapid digital transformation and escalating cybersecurity challenges. Dependence on overseas infrastructure, cross-border data flows, and foreign-owned digital platforms not only constrains domestic technological capabilities and value creation but also raises concerns over data security, regulatory compliance, and strategic autonomy. As data increasingly becomes a critical national asset and India advances its vision of a secure, self-reliant, and globally competitive digital economy through initiatives such as Digital India, India AI, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, developing a robust, sustainable, and future-ready data centre ecosystem has never been more imperative. From physical borders to digital bandwidth, data centres are redefining the foundations of national competitiveness, digital trust, and economic growth.
A recent Tech Talk roundtable discussion on From Borders to Bandwidth – Reimagining India Through Sovereign Datacenters” was organized by IP Bazzaar in association with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, on 9th July 2026. The roundtable brought together experts, industry leaders, government officials, policymakers, technology providers, and researchers to deliberate on the strategic role of data centres in strengthening India’s digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, and economic resilience. Discussions focused on building secure, sustainable, and globally competitive digital infrastructure, addressing challenges related to data localization, energy efficiency, connectivity, emerging technologies, and resilient digital value chains. The event was supported by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
