Technical Description
The technology discloses a quantum key distribution (QKD) system using a heralded single-photon source built from a pulsed mode-locked laser and two non-linear crystals. The key is encoded in the phase difference between temporal segments of a photon wave packet, while a heralded gating signal, sent on the same fiber, triggers synchronized detection at the receiver.
Problems Addressed
- Multi-Photon Emission in Laser Sources
- Detector Dark Counts and Noise
- Photon-Detector Timing Mismatch
- Separate Synchronization Channel Need
- High Quantum Bit Error Rate
- Vulnerable Classical Key Exchange
