Laser Ultrasonics Combinational Mask

Technical Description

The invention is a novel combinational mask-based grating methodology and system to simultaneously co-generate ultrasonic waves using laser excitation. It employs the nonlinear wave-mixing of these generated waves via unique slit arrangements to actively detect early-stage material damage and perform non-contact microstructural characterization.

Problems Addressed

  • Micro-Damage Blindspots
  • Irregular Contour Inspection
  • Contact-Coupling Variabilities
  • Hazardous Environment Limitations
  • Undesired Background Nonlinearities

Tech Features

  • Combinational Dual-Frequency Mask
  • Resonance Condition Engineering
  • Thermoelastic Regime Generation
  • Multi-Orientation Slit Patterns
  • Noncontact Signal Capture
  • Cylindrical Beam Expansion
  • High-Precision Kerf Fabrication

Target Audience

  • Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineers
  • Aerospace and Industrial Manufacturers
  • Material Scientists & Characterization Labs
