Amine-Promoted Synthesis of HMF

Technical Description

A one-pot method for synthesizing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from monosaccharides, disaccharides or oligosaccharides. It combines amine-promoted isomerization, Amadori rearrangement and subsequent dehydration under mild conditions.

Problems Addressed

  • Inefficient conversion of glucose to HMF
  • Limited selectivity in existing methods
  • Need for higher HMF yield
  • Multi-step conversion routes
  • Need for amine recovery and reuse
  • Need for sustainable, renewable-resource-based synthesis

Tech Features

  • Carbohydrate feedstocks
  • Amine-promoted Isomerization
  • Amadori Rearrangement
  • Subsequent Dehydration
  • HMF Synthesis

Target Audience

  • Chemical synthesis and catalysis
  • Chemical industry
  • Renewable energy industry
  • Green chemistry, chemical analysis and bio-based chemicals
