Technical Description
A one-pot method for synthesizing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from monosaccharides, disaccharides or oligosaccharides. It combines amine-promoted isomerization, Amadori rearrangement and subsequent dehydration under mild conditions.
Problems Addressed
- Inefficient conversion of glucose to HMF
- Limited selectivity in existing methods
- Need for higher HMF yield
- Multi-step conversion routes
- Need for amine recovery and reuse
- Need for sustainable, renewable-resource-based synthesis
Tech Features
- Carbohydrate feedstocks
- Amine-promoted Isomerization
- Amadori Rearrangement
- Subsequent Dehydration
- HMF Synthesis
Target Audience
- Chemical synthesis and catalysis
- Chemical industry
- Renewable energy industry
- Green chemistry, chemical analysis and bio-based chemicals
