Current Guided Voltage Equalizer

Technical Description

The technology discloses a system and method for balancing capacitor voltages in inverters and capacitor banks. It detects imbalance from capacitor voltages and output-current polarity, then transfers charge through a chopper inductor. A triangular carrier controls switching frequency and duty cycle so the inductor substantially discharges during charge transfer.

Problems Addressed

  • DC-Link Voltage Imbalance
  • Capacitor Leakage & Voltage Drift
  • DC Components in Output Current
  • Unequal Device Switching Delays
  • Residual Inductor Charge Accumulation
  • Chopper Inductor Damage Risk

Tech Features

  • Hall-Effect Voltage & Current Sensing
  • Current-Polarity Imbalance Detection
  • Chopper Inductor Charge Transfer
  • Triangular Carrier PWM Control
  • Example Duty Cycle About 0.3-0.5
  • Discontinuous Conduction Operation

Target Audience

  • Power Electronics Manufacturers
  • Inverter & UPS System Developers
  • Solar Power Converter Manufacturers
  • Electric Vehicle Powertrain Suppliers
  • HVDC & Grid Compensation Companies
  • Capacitor Bank & Ultracapacitor Integrators
