High-Molecular-Weight Poly-Lactic Acid Synthesis

Technical Description

The invention is an eco-friendly, direct melt-condensation process that synthesizes high-molecular-weight polylactic acid (PLA) using a moisture-pretreated, recyclable solid acid catalyst. Operating under an inert atmosphere without reaction solvents, this economical method eliminates hazardous mineral acids and isolates the catalyst for complete reusability.

Problems Addressed

  • High Production Costs & Substandard Product Quality
  • Inability to Achieve High Molecular Weights
  • Water Removal Blockages & Process Stoppages
  • Health, Safety, & Environmental Hazards from Mineral Acids

Tech Features

  • Direct Polycondensation Process
  • Yield of 42% with 99% Purity
  • 55°C Glass Transition Temperature (T_g)
